I've been watching a lot of these periscope's and it can't compare to being in the building, but watching the video for In Sarnia gave me chills from start to finish. My god that was epic. Gord absolutely crushed the vocals. First video I've seen that resonated with me that way.

I really hope there's official releases for these shows. They sound amazing, even based on the quality you get over periscope, and really pulling some gems out of the back catalogue.

I couldn't believe how amazing it sounded over periscope. It ranks down near the bottom for me on the MMP album but the live version.. wow.

Like everyone here, I could not believe the set-list as it unfolded. Fiddler's Green? Escape is at Hand? Toronto #4?? Yawning or Snarling?? Closing with Three Pistols. My Lord.

(That didn't stop a guy not far from me from complaining about the absence of 'Dough.' I've always maintained the Hip are much smarter than a significant chunk of the people in their crowds).

'In Sarnia' live was quite something. What comes across live, but not so much on the album, is how deeply *romantic* the song is. Might be the most purely romantic thing in their catalogue. And the filmed imagery accompanying the song emphasized exactly the argument I've made about it - i.e., that the narrator is suffering (dying?) from the pollution and contamination of Sarnia, as he cycles desperately through its fumes. It's typical of Gord's genius that he would lace his song with a theme like that.

'Green' made me tear up, 'this is our life' in ABAC was of course a potent moment, and - for some reason - 50 Mission Cap also brought me close to choking up, maybe because that song is so iconic of what the Hip have meant.

When he said, 'we'll see you again...someday,' it was terribly sad. You could almost imagine meeting Gord in the afterlife. (An incredible idea, really).

This tour is clearly designed as a farewell, and every show seems to be shaping up as a love letter - not to the casual fans who want the hits, but to the harder-core fans who have truly followed their work. Nothing more to prove. Just a lot to celebrate. :thumb:

This is awesome. What a fantastic set and start to the tour. Is this the first periscope ever for the Hip?

Can't imagine what it will be like at the Kingston Show

It will be people connected to the band, management/music industry, cbc/gov't, Rogers, or Kingston's Springer family (who owns a large holding company including the Frontenacs.) This seems like the clearest explanation as capacity is ~6000 and we haven't seen close to that quantity of tickets on facebook seating maps, hipbase ticket posts or the secondary market. See some posts on that here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=18531

Is it weird that I have had nightmares of missing out on a ticket for this show? Watching at home with the CBC cameras frequently panning to Trudeau in attendance, an entire section blocked off for his entourage and a huge team of lucky security guards watching the show on the taxpayers dime. Hope(fully) I am COMPLETELY wrong on this and the political photo-op circus and media microscope it attracts doesn't venture outside of Ottawa as far as this tour is concerned!

Yes many diehard fans will be in Kingston, as many of us as possible Im sure. At this point I forsee a crowd skewed towards the wealthier fans and the type who want to recite "I was there!" over the type who can recite the lyrics to deep cuts, but it will surely be loud regardless of which lucky people are in the audience.

No New Orleans is Sinking either. Poor guy must have been crushed with disappointment. :D

Definitely. It seems like the entire catalogue is fair game for this tour (except maybe the EP). It's been quite a ride so far. I was at Sunday's show, and it was easily the most emotional concert experience I've ever had. Words can't even describe the vibe in the place. It was really beautiful.
