The Colosseum at Caesar's Windsor

" It's boring, I'm embarrassed,
I don't endorse that; I didn't want this,
It's horrific, I'm embarrassed,
I didn't want that, I didn't want this "

Ok,to start with, let me say that I recorded the entire show with my HD Zoom recorder. It sounds great.

Arrived at the casino early to scope out the venue, noticed nobody waiting inline and it was 6pm, so I went and blew $60 in 10 minutes and then had a few drinks, went to line up at about 7pm, lucky enough we managed to be 1st in line, with another few people arriving about 5 seconds later. Lots of people started to line up for the GA on the floor. Once they let us in there was a quick walk to the front of the stage where we secured our spots right on the rail between Gord and Paul. Met Mr.Lahey and a few others at the show. Nice to talk to Mr.Lahey for a while about all things hip. The Hip opened the show and rocked and rocked, I cant recall the exact setlist right now but I do know that it was all great, Then the first GREAT moment for me was when they launched into So Hard Done By. This version seemed more heavy than normal with a lot of guitar work above normal levels, im sure. The crowd was really into it, I looked around and noticed that the place was full, I later came to find out it was sold out and about 5000 people were there. Having seen them in Toronto a week earlier at the Danforth Music Hall, this show seemed to be moving along just fine and not very different from the previous show I just mentioned, Untill, Gord started yelling about some sort of fight, I looked at him to see what he was talking about, figuring it could be some sort of rant, but I noticed his attention was on the crowd behind me on the floors, he came over and stood right infront of me and was yelling over me, getting really mad as I could see, clearly there was a fight, but watching Gord scream in anger was more interesting than turning around and trying to see some fight. This made me realize, I hope Gord never gets angry at me and yells at me as he seems very forceful in his anger. So off to "Locked In The Truck Of A Car" They lower the curtain/sheers or whatever you call those things they used for video screens, and then Locked starts, as it builds and the crowd sings along, "lashing out at machine reving tension" and the drums kick in, the curtains begin to raise as Gord sings "Morning broke out of the back side of a truck stop" he reaches for the bottom of the screen as if its the sun rising. It was a cool move, and made it seem like light was shining on a new day of terrible discovery in the woods where the bodies have been dumped. I don't remember a lot from the show other than Pauls guitar seemed louder than normal and especially during Wheat Kings, I am thinking this might be due to his loss of hearing in his right ear, being deaf on one side might have made it very hard for him to hear acoustic monitors so the only way to combat that would be to turn it up. I did not care for NOIS or BAHD as I have heard these songs more than enough times in my life and they have now become those songs that I actually am skipping over when they come on my mp3 player. I don't have much more to say about the show, as it was your typical Hip show, GREAT. Lots of little moments and movements to make it all interesting. I like that Gord is not doing a hell of a lot of twirling and crazy moves, I prefer the new Gord that we seem to be getting on this tour where he is more stable and singing better. I dont particularly care much for the hankie toss and blowing it and using it as a prop. I like the white cowboy hat he is using, must be the same one that he wore this past summer with the Sadies. I also noticed that Johnny is wearing some sort of glove on his right hand, not a normal glove like golf glove or baseball batting glove, but this one has thick plastic wrap around the wrist sort of stuff, Is he suffering from some sort of wrist problem now? I also notice that Johnny is not tossing any drum sticks into the crowd. I also noticed that Gord seems to be taking a nice big drink of whatever is in his drinking container, could it be a warm lemon tea to help him keep his singing voice? Or just water? Whatever it is, it seems to be helping him as he is singing really good. That's it, not much of a review so much as an observation.

I think he is suffering from lack of sleep, more than anything else. 8 month old twin boys will do that to you :thumb:

I guess this is where to post this???
Last minute carpool anyone?
Leaving from Kitchener (and points between) and can drive or be driven!
Staying overnight at the Quality Suites so I could also have a pullout couch in a suite for a good rate.

Cheers,
Ken

This was the 6th show my wife and I have attended on the Fully, Completely Tour. This was the 2nd time on this tour we have seen The Hip play the Coliseum at Caesars Windsor Casino. The Coliseum is an expansive room with large, tiered risers at the rear. The main floor of the concert hall can be configured with seating or it can be removed for general admission as it was this night. The house was full and there was a good vibe in the air.

Of the previous shows I have seen on this tour the band has stuck to a somewhat strict formula. The shows begin promptly at 9pm and The Hip sandwich the Fully, Completely album with 5 random, popular hits before and after the album performance. I was slightly surprised the show began at 9:10pm. Gord D came out in a black leather jacket and pants. He shed the jacket quickly as sweat soon gathered on his forehead. Most of this tour Gord has concentrated on his singing and the presentation of FC. Many fans have noticed he has toned down his exuberance and he has walked the stage calmly while singing either at his center stage mike or standing next to Paul or Gord S.

During this show Gord was dancing as the music flowed out of himself and his band mates. He was interacting with the fans in the first few rows and finding a tepid response. The fans seemed to be enjoying themselves, but there wasn't the fervent singing and jumping I have seen from this crowd here before. In fact, The Hip always get a large response from hockey fans at their concerts across Canada when they play 50 Mission Cap. Last night Gord D could not evoke any emotion from the fans during this song. At the high points of this song Gord came to the edge of the stage and got no fan response. He jokingly looked confused while he shrugged his shoulders and arms in a "What's Up?" manner.

The low key fans could not keep The Hip down. Gord's big smile and melodious voice rang through as he was flanked by Paul Langlois on his right and Gord S and Robbie Baker on his left. Johnnie Fay played energetically and effortlessly at his drum kit. Robbie and Paul were on fire as they meshed their guitar riffs. Rob looked good in an all white suit with a red shirt. The band's entire 22 song set for this tour has been clocking in consistently at 90 minutes per show. I don't know why, maybe The Hip were trying to make up for their late start, but this show ran long at 115 minutes of classic, alternative Hip rock n' roll for the same 22 song set.

One last point I enjoyed was the outro the band played for Courage. The song wound down as it always does and then morphed into Gord S playing the base line to Walking on the Moon by The Police. Something not all fans may have noticed.

Here are some photos my wife took at the show:
