My two cents regarding the show, Canadian Hip fans and my buddy Hugh23...
The show - Great! I think it was a hell of a lot better than the SARS show. Gord still missed some pretty major lyrics, but the band seemed way tighter and genuinely delighted to be at Molson Park. I think it will make for a great bootleg. A little short though. Great set list, however what's with Puttin' Down, especially as an encore? Don't quite get that one. Beautiful evening, pretty much the same weather as '97.

We all know that we are not supposed to judge people, and we should never judge people's tastes. However, I do think that Canadians are more reserved, quieter, unfortunately less patriotic and more polite than Americans - generally speaking. But to judge that crowd that night is a waste of time. When you get a bunch of tired, drunken "kids" out for the last act of Edgefest- the Hip, it's a whole lot different than being at the Hummingbird or Toledo where it's them, 1500 devoted fans and one opening act. By the time the Hip came on, lots of kids were down or gone or beat. They also where not neccessarily Hip fans, they might only know Finger 11 or OLP. Hugh, you need to see us at the Hummingbird.

Speaking of Hugh - you are a good man, your gorgeous wife and your handsome friends are great people too. I really enjoyed meeting a FIRED UP Hip fan from the states, there are not enough of you!
PEOPLE! - this guy took notes!, he wrote down what Gord etc where doing during each and every song and he kept asking me "Bry what do you make of this one, what are your thoughts?" I'm thinking this guy's really a U.S. Hip fan? Frankly he and his friends are one of the few Yankees smart enough to figure out how incredible the Hip really are. Way to go Hugh et al!

Though Hugh was a little loud, who gives a shit, he was respectful and he was having a great time. Having a ball is what it's all about. I know I sure did!

No, he seemed to be screaming "GORD!" and "YEAH" over and over and over. He sounded kind of like what's his name, Lenny, from Motorhead. Funny.

Yes, he sure doesn't sound like he writes. For a very intense guy, he's a fire fighter you know, he is quite a "soft" writer. When the private show happens, I sure hope he get's a ticket...you'll see a guy lose his mind right in front of you! Beautiful.

You asked earlier if Hugh23 yelled out EX-CEL-LENT at the Barrie show?
Well yes he did! The Hip just finished a song and the crowd got quite, and he yelled out excellent, and I'm pretty sure Gord heard it he did turn his head and look out at the crowd. Think about it, how many times did he yell that at Gord"s solo show's in Detroit and Chicago! I'm sure Gord heard him!

I hear the point that many of you are making. Some can't or don't want to be openly emotional at a concert. Just because you are not as intense as I am at a Hip show, or any other concert or event for that matter, doesn't mean you are enjoying it any less than me.

Listen to your Live Between Us CD recorded in Detroit. The fans cheer wildly not only between songs, but sometimes right in the middle of one after a great verse or guitar riff. It's what I'm accustomed to and I guess I'm spoiled.

Summiteer is right when he says you can miss cool things that happen by being too intense. I've experienced it and that is why I take short notes during shows. (But that can be distracting also).

Mats made a good point too. It serves no purpose to compare one group's reaction to another's. This was just something different that I was not used to.

I love the Hipbase community that I am part of. I hope my comments didn't offend anyone. I am going to many shows in the U.S. and Canada during the Hip's next tour. If you see a guy having more fun than you thought was humanly possible, it's probably me.

Hughs right, it a pretty laid back crowd and people do not always express themselves by being wild but being up front in the mosh pit was awesome -everyone singing along around me- except for puttin down and silver jet where most didnt know the words- i really hope the hip have G/A for their next tour - sans crowd surfing- Crowds here are more reserved - go to a leafs game and take in the silence of the game too...
I too like to jump /sing/ move to the music and have a dozen or so beers to go along with it makes the concert great - i must say i cant remember all the concerts 100% i ve been to but in those moments they were amazing! I dont think that can offend anyone hugh - i think a more livelier crowd makes the band better
